August 2015 T-Twister Newsletter

I know it's been a while since we had a general meeting, but don't forget to attend the next one. Same time, same place...Saturday, Aug 1st at Casa Lopez in Midland, 10:00 for breakfast and 10:30 for the meeting. We have several things to discuss, which includes Ronnie's retirement party, the Harper campout, and the October Chili cookoff. We will also be discussing ordering new Club t-shirts, so if you'd like some imput in that, be at the meeting!

This past month has blown past so fast that it surprised even me! But I've been on the go all month long, and while I totally enjoyed it, absolutely NOTHING that I had planned on doing at home, got done. I spent a good weekend with the T-Twisters attending the play TEXAS, which everyone enjoyed. Then I went to Oklahoma to my family reunion. Next, Nola, Skyler and I spent a week in Colorado with my sister (remember her from last summer's Club trip to Colorado?) We picked her up, then stopped in Canon City, where we toured the prison museum. I "acquired" a really pretty rock there, which now decorates my front yard...memories!! We went to the Royal Gorge where we rode the tram acrosss the Gorge, which is something I swore I'd never do! But I must admit, it was fun!

The next day we went to Alma, CO, where we attended the Rennaisance Faire. It was HUGE, covering way more area than I ever expected! Slyler and Thelma dressed in period costume. I was surprised at the people that arrived there already in costume, some really elaborate ones, too! We saw Jugglers, Acrobats, Fire Eaters, Glass blowers, Hypnotists, Jousting and heard some good bands. Lots of little booths to spend money in! We left there TIRED, and feet hurting from walking up and down the sides of the mountain. The Faire was NOT on level ground!
Thelma took us to the most amazing cemetery the next day. It was tucked away on a dirt road, off the beaten path, hidden in the pines. The graves were every which way, with no rhyme or reason, and marked by everything from a pile of dead wood on the ground, to two sticks tied together, to words carved in a tree trunk, to elaborate modern markers. The dates were pre-Civil War, to 2013. A wonderful, peaceful place.

We drove on up the dirt road and tried to get Skyler close enough to the snow to play in it, but it started raining. The snow LOOKED close, but I think it was probably farther away than we thought. It would have taken considerable walking, and at that altitude (12,000 plus) this old, fat woman wasn't walking very far!
We did find a ranch that rented horses, so Nola and Skyler got to ride up the mountain the next day. When we left the ranch and headed back to Rocky Ford, we hit rain, and it rained on us most of the way. The temp was 52. Loved it!
The T-Twisters left for Ruidosoon Friday the 17th of July. We left Midland about 8:00am,(my fault we were running late) with a good line up of riders. Ed and Skyler, Pete, Janice, Derrell, Brenda, Terry, Tracie, Ronnie, Dennis, Russell and Linda all rode. Charles pulled his camper and Nola pulled theirs and Mario trailered his bike up.
The girls had several good rounds of "Quarters", which Skyler won most of. Mario played with the girls also, but I don't think he won a round!

We rode to Mayhill, then into Cloudcroft the back way, and spent a couple hours shopping there. We found a really good BBQ place to eat, but I can't remember the name of it. By the time we headed back down the hill, it was getting hot, and there was several sunburned faces around the (imaginary) campfire that night.
Eddie Ray and Wilma would have been there but he had to have his arm operated on that same Friday. We're hoping he has a speedy recovery!

Don't forget the next officers meeting, which is the next to last Tuesday in August, Polo's, Odessa.
