August 2012 Newsletter
IMPORTANTE!! THE AUGUST GENERAL MEETING WILL BE HELD AT CASA LOPEZ AGAIN!!
Please try to attend this meeting! We will be discussing a possible change in where our general meetings will be held!
******************************************************************************
Jan and Bob made it back home from their extended vacation, tired but ready to be home. I think Jan was having grandbaby withdrawal.
"
I love Hord’s Creek Lake and don’t want to go home. But, if I don’t go home, Bob will be riding back & forth, from here to Odessa, to work, every week. He basically has only one good eye right now, so I don’t think he should be riding AT ALL! We don’t have any idea what happened to his eye and (thankfully) it’s not causing him any pain. It was just fine, then all of a sudden he couldn’t see out of it. He has an appointment with a Dr.
Mayans (sp?) at the Retina Clinic, on W. 2nd St. But, the doc can’t see him till the 30th. Please pray that whatever it is, it’s fixable."

Al took our #2 grandson, Sam, on his very first bike ride about a week ago. They rode from here to the Black Gold Rally in Goldsmith, but had forgotten that it is an 18 and older rally, so they couldn't get in. So they just rode around a little, taking it easy, and came home. Sam loved it! Maybe we've got a new biker coming up!
**************
DINNER RIDE:
Saturday, August 18 will be our next dinner ride. Meet at Stripes across from Warfield at 5:30, kickstands up at 5:45. We're heading west, all the way to Monahans, to eat at the steakhouse there. Everyone try to come, I know it'll be hot going over, but the ride home should be great!!
**************** Leathers
My leathers have been with me since I started motorcycling. I tend to wear them whenever I'm riding. They are faded from the elements, stretched and saggy from use, but they still keep me from taking abuse. My leathers bear the scars, scrapes and abrasions from a few slips and some spills. My leathers still keep me warm from those morning chills. Despite them being my body guard, we have become old friends, going on long rides together, taking on hills, valleys and bends. My leathers have sheltered me from the rain and from the fog. They even have blocked the bite of an angry dog. They have protected me from flying rocks and from bugs and have been on the receiving end of many hugs. My leathers have shaded me from the blistering sun on a long, dry and hot Texas run. Over time they have become supple and comfortable like a broken in boot. As a bonus, there's a place for my gun in case I need to shoot. My leathers are now getting old, wrinkly, and slightly tattered but they continue to protect me from getting battered. They have screened me from the wind and they will stay with me to the end. But at the end of this long ride, it's not just a cow's hide, it's my skin. -- Torch.

D'Rose Inn, is a motorcycle ONLY motel in Leakey TX. This is for real! This lady will ONLY rent to bikers! Her website is
www.droseinn.com, and her phone number is 830-232-5246. This impressed me!
Al and his brother Mike left this morning to spend some time together in Kerrville. We had planned another camping trip to Camp Wood before school starts, but the camp ground is booked solid for an Old Settlers Reunion the weekend we wanted to go. SO...we looked around and found another place, one we've never been to before. I'm kinda excited about going to a new place! But I was nice and told the two men to enjoy a few days to them selves, the rest of us are going on Wednesday.
************* The Three Samurai
There once was a powerful old Japanese emperor who needed a new chief samurai. So he sent out a declaration throughout the entire known world that he was searching for a chief. A year passed, and only three people applied for the very demanding position: a Japanese samurai, a Chinese samurai, and a Jewish samurai. The old emperor asked the Japanese samurai to come in and demonstrate why he should be the chief samurai. The Japanese samurai opened a matchbox, and out popped a bumblebee. Whoosh! went his sword. The bumble bee dropped dead at the Emperor's feet, neatly chopped in half. The emperor exclaimed, "That is very impressive!" The old emperor then issued the same challenge to the Chinese samurai, to come in and demonstrate why he should be chosen. The Chinese samurai also opened a matchbox and out buzzed a fly. Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh! The fly dropped dead at the Emperor's feet, neatly chopped into four small pieces. The old emperor exclaimed, "That is very impressive!" Now the old emperor turned to the Jewish samurai, and asked him to demonstrate why he should be the chief samurai. The Jewish Samurai opened a matchbox, and out flew a gnat. His flashing sword went Whoosh! But the gnat was still alive and flying around. The emperor, obviously disappointed, said, "Very ambitious, but why is that gnat not dead?" The Jewish Samurai just smiled and said, "Circumcision is not meant to kill."
