July 2011 Newsletter

Listen up, folks…there will be NO general meeting in July!! So spend the Fourth with your family and friends, enjoy the holiday and remember the reason it is one! We will have a general meeting in August, the usual time and place, 7:30 pm at Warfield.
**************************************************************

The Back to Ballinger campout wasn’t very well attended, but those of us that made it (Tom, Tommye, Ed, David Ellis, Al, Mary, Jan, Bob, Sam, Helen, Pete Putman and a few others, 18 in all) had a really good time. I don’t have to tell you it was HOT…it’s been hot everywhere and Ballinger was no exception. But the wind blew, not too hard, and that helped.

‘TJ’s Dogs’ cooked lunch for us on Saturday. For those of you that might not know who ‘TJ’s Dogs’ is, it’s Tom and Tommye. We had burgers and dogs, and Tom made his jalapeno poppers, which as usual, was wonderful! No one walked away from that meal hungry!!

The T-Twisters paid to have a port-a-potty put up, which was wonderful, but it also presented a problem. The park was full, with a big family reunion, a birthday celebration, us, and all the other people that just went to the park that day. Thus, we started noticing that MANY people were using the potty, most definitely NOT just the campers! Jan became the “Protector of the Potty”, and, after explaining to several people just why the potty was there, the extra usage slowed way down. Now, before anyone gets a burr under their blanket about us doing that…did I mention that the park was FULL, and there was only one potty that we paid for??? Thanks, Jan, for being a great P.O.P.!!

The finishing touch to the weekend was Pete’s service on Sunday morning. I’ve gone to church almost all my life, but there’s just something about hearing Pete read from the Bible under the trees, with the birds singing and the wind whispering in the leaves, that seems to bring God closer. Is this what Heaven will be like? Hearing God’s word in the wind? I pray that it is. Thank you, Pete, and God bless you where ever you are!

We had severe thunderstorms around the area last night, and some people (not Odessa) got some much needed rain. It wasn’t the kind of rain we needed, coming too hard and fast, with hail, but at least it was something. I hate to say this, but the kind of rain we need is the slow, soaking over several days’ kind that we get from Gulf hurricanes. But with our relief comes destruction and death for other areas, and we don’t need that!

Although we didn’t get any rain last night, we did get a wonderful lightening show! It was the best I’ve seen in many years, with absolutely no thunder. The action was constant, and the blessing was that the lightening was ‘cloud to cloud,’ with nothing hitting the ground and starting fires. We watched it for a long time before we gave up and went to bed.

Some up coming events are:
July 9 Area D TMRA meeting Snyder
July 15-17 Black Gold Rally Goldsmith 432-827-3404 July 15-17 Easy Riders M/C Rodeo Tour Columbus Tx 404-886-3467

Al and I went to San Antonio after we left Ballinger. We found a nice campground on loop 1604, called the Blazing Star. It’s got a great location, close to several restaurants, 2 miles from Sea Word and right smack between two Wal-Marts! We spent Monday just looking around, doing a lot of window shopping and finding a carwash for the truck. Tuesday we went to Sea World, neither one of us had been there before, and I was excited. The park was not crowded, so we got to see several things without being too crowded. Did I mention that it was HOT??? The temp was 105, and after awhile I wasn’t feeling too good. For a short time I really thought I was gonna be sick. Then we found the shark house and that helped a lot, but, after about 5 hours, we called it quits. We talked about going to see the Alamo and the Riverwalk the next day, but the TV was predicting a heat index down town of 115, so we passed on that. There will be another time, but not when it’s so hot.
We decided to just come home, and get back under our own A/C, so that’s what we did. We stopped in Iraan, hoping to see Dana and Nancy. Dana was hard at work, and we just caught Nancy on her way out. They are both doing good, and are VERY busy! Nancy had a catering event coming up on Saturday for 400 people and another one, slightly smaller, the first of the next week. But she reported that they are going to Ruidoso in September, and are going to CAMP with us, not in a motel!! That is great news!!

I know you will be getting the newsletter early this month, I’m leaving on Friday to go to Oklahoma for my family reunion, and to spend some time with my sister in Colorado. Don’t neglect your family, friends, ‘cause you wake up one day and someone is gone. Love them while you’ve got them!

Most of you have seen our Wolf Pack toy box. We need to sell it, so if you know anyone that wants one, PLEASE let me know. It’s a 2005, one owner, 30 foot with front bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen area. It has a fuel station that we’ve never used. My phone is 432-381-0261. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

That’s it for this month. Everyone enjoy your summer and pray for rain!!
Love ya,
Mary
